African Jazz Lent opening

»We are so happy to be back in Slovenia,« were the first words coming from the Jazz Lent stage. The Tuareg world sensation is no stranger to Slovenian stages and last night they were the first jazz ensemble to play at the new, packed venue of Jazz Lent. The group comes from restless West Africa where the nomadic Tuareg people have been fighting bloody wars for their independence. For the members of the band, who chose instruments over weapons, music is the main instrument of resistance that proved to be more effective in the long run. Through their work they became some kind of ambassadors of the liberation movement, embracing the whole world, and yesterday they more than successfully tested the vibrations of the new Jazz Lent venue.
Symbolically, they played for the Slovenian audience on the Slovenian Statehood day, celebrating the formal independence of Slovenia. “We are very honoured to be with you on your independence day. We hope to experience our own one day.” Their way will continue to be long and hard - two of the band members even lost their lives in the independence war. Besides many other things, Bombino’s music is expressing this primary human fear, but an even bigger wish for a better tomorrow which can be felt through their tunes. “Come closer! We won’t be here tomorrow, so enjoy this night!” With this words the dance floor in front of the stage started to fill up with vibrating fans of African rhythms.
