The Canadian mini-big band skilfully intertwines engaged and colourful brass band music from Africa (afrobeat, highlife, Ethiopian »groove«) and South America (rumba, samba, salsa, mambo) with the right amount of spiritual jazz, soul and funk. The band has been playing since 2002 and became widely recognised in 2006 when the renowned English DJ Gilles Peterson placed their song Mista President on the 9th place of his personal charts of the best 30 world songs that year.
The Souljazz Orchestra would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
