ARGENTINA
Ballet Folklórico Latinoamericano "Santiago del Estero", Santiago del Estero



Since the beginning, the Ballet Folklórico "Santiago del Estero" folklore group has been an important cultural ambassador, spreading the popular dance expressions of Latin America throughout the world. They have received several awards from the Argentinian Ministry of culture.  

The young musicians and dancers are from the Santiago del Estero province, a Mediterranean area in the north-western part of Argentina. This region is a cradle of poets, singers and dancers and is devoted to preserving its ancient tradition. Despite the progress and modernization in music and dance, the group deeply respects and grooms their cultural heritage and the expressiveness of their ancestors. 

GUAM
National Folk Dance Ensemble of Guam – Inetnon Gefpa’go, Merizo 

Inetnon GEF Pa'go is a program of the Guamanian Ministry of education that has been awarded several times and is devoted to the promotion of the Chamorro heritage through performance art. The Chamorro people were skilled sailors and craftsmen. Supposedly they were originating from the south-eastern part of Asia and are closely connected to the natives on the western part of the Philippines and Taiwan, who are all part Austronesian speaking people. 
The group members are devoted to preserving their own tradition and are presenting their community with the help of traditional masters. The membership in this group starts in middle school and the training lasts until the end of studies. The best of them are then selected to be representing Guam at the biggest festivals around the world. 


JAPAN
SANYO Daiko Dan
, Hiroshima 

Japanese traditional art does not only consist of kabuki, tea rituals, haikus and geishas. An important part of the Japanese tradition are taiko drums that are played on special occasions – birth and death, special celebrations etc. The drums must be treated with care because they are offer shelter to supernatural beings and are therefore not meant for expressing bad emotions. Balanced and correct drumming is very important - only then strong energy is released.  
SANYO Daiko Dan is a group of young Japanese from Hiroshima who has been devoted to the art of drumming for many years. 


PORTUGAL
Grupo Folclórico De Faro, Faro 

The group was founded in the early 30s and is the oldest folk group in the Algarve region and one of the oldest folk groups in Portugal. The group was inspired by the traditional Portuguese dance ”Corridinho” (translation: ”running with small steps”) and has been an inspiration for many other groups. Besides performing at festivals all around the world, they are the organizers of the renowned Folkfaro festival (CIOFF®). Their costumes are from the late 19th and early 20th century and the group is representing the traditional music and songs from Algarve. They have been travelling the world for 20 years.

SERBIA
AKUD Ivo Lola Ribar, Belgrade

As the biggest ensemble of its kind, with over 1,000 members, Academic Cultural and Artistic Company Ivo Lola Ribar has been carefully fostering Serbian national artistic tradition and customs in folklore, orchestral music (folk, string and chamber), chorus music and theatre for seven decades now. 
The company is a cultural and educational institution representing the rich Serbian heritage. Their name “Lola” means a person who loves his/her homeland, dances, singing and music. They have danced and sung through thousands of concerts.  All performances of AKUD “Lola” are sold out in advance. They have received many awards for their artistic achievements in Serbia and abroad. 

TURKEY
Chansu Folk Dance Group, Ankara 

The Chansu Folk Dance Group was founded in 2003 with the aim of preserving and grooming the arts of performing Turkish dances and songs. The young members want to preserve the cultural values and encourage others to love the folk traditions. 

The group focuses on the northern Black sea region where you can find the dance called “horon”. This is a very fast traditional dance that is performed in the open, usually during special occasions, celebrations or weddings. In the past ten years the folk group has received many awards at national and international competitions. 

SLOVENIA
Študent academic folklore group, Maribor 

This year, the folk group from Maribor, one of the best academic folk dance groups in Slovenia, is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Every year, for 26 years in a row, the group co-organizes the international folklore festival Folkart in Maribor. With the help of the group the festival became one of the best folklore festivals in Europe. Together with Narodni dom Maribor they endeavour to welcome the participants to Maribor and make their stay here unforgettable.
They are devoted folklorists, exceptional ambassadors of folk tradition and with their youthful energy they are ensuring that the tradition of former generations finds its way to the national and international stages. 


SLOVENIA
Rožmarin folklore group, Dolena 

The folk group started in 1980 and will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year. The group consists of a section of active peasant women, folk singers, children and adult folk group, ethnographic section and folk musicians. 
The folk group focuses on dances from different parts of Slovenia, but mostly they are proud of the dance heritage of their own region - central Haloze. They are especially devoted to preserving the ethnographic carnival characters Jürek and Rabolj, the messengers of spring, and the demon from under the Donačka mountain. They are co-organizers of the Kimavčevi večeri folk festival in Ptuj and have been performing in the neighbouring countries.  

SLOVENIA
Ozara academic folk group, Kranj 

The academic folk group was founded in 1952. Today, the group has more than 80 active members in 5 sections: youth and leading dance section, Kranjski furmani – male folk song singers, Bodeče neže – female folk song singers and a group of folk musicians.
The choreographies are created by the members of the group – mentors. The folk group has been performing in Slovenia, Europe and other continents and has been awarded several times.
